Dear Parents of St. Sebastian School,

I am proud to announce that at our first Family Mass and Meal we made $800. Thank you to
everyone who came out in support of our school. I’m looking forward to seeing all of you at the
upcoming community events. The school year is quickly zooming by, we ask God to remind us
to savor every moment and to find joy in all things. Looking forward to a fabulously fun filled
October!

Below are some important updates:

Parent Education Night at St. Anastasia

St. Anastasia will be hosting guest speaker Katie Hurley Thursday evening at St. Anastasia
church and want to extend the invitation us. The H appy Kid Handbook by child and adolescent
psychotherapist Katie Hurley shows parents how happiness is the key to raising confident,
capable children. Please register online at the link provided. The Happy Kid Handbook

3rd/4th Grade Used Book Sale

The 3rd/4th grade class will be selling used books this week. If you would like to purchase a
book bring $1

8th Grade Parent Meetings/Events
Oct. 18th join us for a parent meeting where we’ll be discussing all things 8th grade. Your
attendance is strongly encouraged. If you haven’t already signed up your child for HSPT prep
classes please inquire with Mr. Bias. There are sessions offered through Loyola High School
and St. Bernard High School. The 26th of Oct. we will have a high school application boot camp
where we’ll be going through important pieces of the application process. Nov. 30th we’ll have a
St. Sebastian Alum night where we’ll be asking St. Sebastian students that are currently at a
Catholic high school to join us in sharing what their experience has been like. We can’t wait to
hear that all of our students will be applying Catholic high school!

Jog-a-thon Oct. 19th from 8-11am
Get ready to to get your jog on and raise money for the school! This day all students will wear
their P.E. uniform. Stay tuned for more information that will go home with students.

Enchilada Food Sale
Don’t feel like cooking on Friday nights? Take home some homemade enchiladas for dinner on
Oct. 28th. For $5 you’ll get two enchiladas, rice, beans, small salad and a drink. Stop by and
pick up a to go order or place your order ahead of time. Order forms will be distributed soon!

Halloween Festival
On Monday, Oct. 31st students will be allowed to dress in costume and enjoy a school parade
at 9 am followed by fun games and a delicious lunch. Lunch and ticket orders will go home
with your child before the 31st. For costumes please remember no blood, weapons, and make
sure the lengths of dresses, skirts, and shorts are at the knee.

Chocolate Sale
As an opportunity to fulfill your fundraising commitment for the school year, families will be given
two boxes of chocolates to sell. The school receives 50% of all sales and students that sell the
most will receive a grand prize. Stay tuned for more details!

School Yard Sale
Time for some overdue Spring cleaning? Need to make space for all of the new items you’ll
purchase during Christmas? Tell your friends and family to deliver any items they would like to
donate to the school yard sale on Nov. 18th after 3:30 pm. The sale will start at 8 am and will
end at 12 pm.

2nd Family Masses and Meal, Sunday, Dec. 4th Picture with Santa
Join us in sharing our faith and building community by attending the second mass and
meal of the year. All are invited and encouraged to attend our Mass celebration at 9:00 am
at St. Sebastian Church. Don’t forget to stop by to take a picture with Santa. Students that
come in their uniform that day will get a free dress day on the following Thursday.

Sports Corner
Girls Volleyball is off to a strong start!
Girls A team has a 1 - 1 record.
B Team has a 1 - 1 record
C team has a 1 - 0 record.
Please make sure to turn in all forms to Mr. Suk or to Mr Higdon.

Club Corner
Spanish Club The school will be building our school alter for El Dia de Los Muertos. This is
traditionally a Mexican celebration where families remember loved ones that have passed away.
The families go to the gravesites and prepare the deceased’s favorite meal, adorn the area with
sugared skulls and marigolds. Please see Srta. Gavina if you would like to contribute to our
alter.

STEM Club is working on Engineering project for the next couple of weeks. We have already
built, bridges, buildings and planes.

Mandarin Club Meets Friday afternoon.
3:15 - 4:05pm for Beginner students (TK - 2nd grade). Program: 1 song, 1 book reading, 1
project and 1 written Chinese word per day.
4:10 - 5:00pm for Intermediate students (2nd - 8th grade). Program: Practice conversation,
intensive reading, writing and listening comprehension.

Student Council Student Council will meet on Tuesdays at lunch in Room 8 to plan fun student
activities and events throughout the year. Campaign 16-17 is under way! Listen for updates
from our candidates.

Choir Interested students in grades 2-8 can come by on Thursdays from 1-2 to see how choir
works!

Knitting Club Will meet in the 3rd/4th grade room.

Newspaper Club The time has changed to 4:30 in order to accommodate veteran writers that
are also participating in volleyball. Our first copy of the year will go out very soon!

Philanthropy Club The Philanthropy Club will be organizing this year’s Thanksgiving Hygiene
Drive! Donate bars of soap/combs/toothbrushes/toothpastes/deodorants/shampoos to your
class container through November 10. The class with the most donated items wins a pizza
party!

Academic Decathlon Our decathletes are anxiously awaiting the arrival of the study guides for
this year’s competition and expanding their lateral thinking capabilities by working on their logic
skills! Can’t wait to see these big brains in action!

Communications Update
2nd - 8th grade parents will have access to E ngrade the online system teachers use for
grades. You should received your logins. If you have trouble signing on or need help
downloading Remind for mass communicate via email and/or text, please come to the
front office.

Estimadas familias de San Sebastián,
Estoy orgullosa de anunciar que en nuestra primer misa familiar y venta de comida hicimos
$800. Gracias a todos lo que vinieron a apoyar la escuela. Espero verlos a todos en nuestros
próximos eventos comunitarios. El año escolar se nos va pasando rápido, le pedimos a Dios
que nos recuerde a vivir cada momento intensamente y siempre encontrar alegría en todo.

Reunión y eventos para padres con niños en 8
El 18 de oct. habra una reunion donde hablaremos sobre todo lo que hay por venir para
nuestros estudiantes en 8. Su presencia es sumamente importante. Si no ha inscrito a su hijo/a
en los cursos de HSPT favor de pedirle información a Mr. Bias. Hay sesiones en Loyola High
School y St. Bernard High School. El 26 de octubre tendremos un will have campamento para
hablar sobre como solicitar a una escuela preparatoria Católica. El 30 de noviembre tendremos
un evento con nuestros alumnos que actualmente asisten a una escuela preparatoria Católica
para que compartan sus experiencias con nosotros. Sabemos que todos nuestros estudiantes
asistiran a una escuela Catolica.

Trota-ton 19 de octubre de 8-11am
Ponganse listos para trotar y recaudar fondos para la escuela! Este dia todos los estudiantes
deben usar su uniforme de educación física. Mas informacion sera enviada a la casa con sus
hijos.

Venta de comida - enchiladas
Le faltan ganas para cocinar el viernes? Llévese a la casa unas enchiladas para cenar el 28 de
octubre. Por $5 recibira dos enchiladas, arroz, frijoles, ensalada pequeña y una bebida. Pasele
y recoja una orden para llevar o haga su pedido. Formularios para pre-ordenar serán
distribuidos dentro de poco !

Festival de halloween
Lunes el 31 de octubre, los estudiantes podrán venir a la escuela en disfraces y disfrutar de
nuestro desfile a las 9 am. Después habrán juegos y una comida preparada por nuestras
familias. Órdenes para comida y tiquetes se mandaran a casa con su hijo/a antes del 31. Para
los disfraces recuerden no sangre, armas, y el largo de los vestidos, faldas, y pantalones cortos
deben estar a la rodilla.

Venta de chocolate
Para completar con su obligación de recaudar fondos para la escuela, cada familia tendrá la
oportunidad de vender dos cajas de chocolates. La escuela recibirá 50% de todas las ventas y
el que venda más recibirá el premio mayor. Stay tuned for more details!

Venta de garaje
Tiene un garaje lleno de tiliches? Tiene que hacer lugar para todo lo que comprara en la
navidad? Dígale a sus amigos y familia que donen sus artículos el 18 de noviembre después de
las 3:30 pm. La venta sera el 19 de noviembre de 8 am a 12 pm.

Segunda misa familiar y venta de comida, foto con Santa
Acompáñenos a la misa y venta de comida el domingo 4 de diciembre para crecer en nuestra
fe, unirse a nuestra comunidad, y tomarse una foto con Santa. Todos están bienvenidos a la
misa de 9:00 am en la iglesia de San Sebastián. Después de misa pase a la venta de comida.
Ninos que vengan en uniforme para la misa de 9 am tendran el próximo jueves un dia sin
uniforme.

El equipo de voleibol está empezando la temporada muy bien!

Club de STEM está trabajando en proyectos de ingeniería para las próximas par de
semanas. Ya hemos construido, puentes, edificios y aviones.

Club de Mandarín se reune los viernes en la tarde.
3:15 - 4:05pm para principiantes estudiantes (TK - 2). Programa: 1 canción, 1 libro de lectura, 1
proyecto y 1 una palabra en mandarín escrita cada sesión.
4:10 - 5:00pm para estudiantes con conocimiento del idioma (2nd - 8th grade). Programa:
Practicar la conversación, lectura intensiva, destrezas de escritura y comprensión al escuchar.

El consejo estudiantil El consejo estudiantil se reunira durante la comida en el cuarto 8 para
planificar actividades divertidas durante el anio escolar. La campana 16-17 esta presente!
Escuchen los anuncios en la mañana para más información sobre nuestros candidatos.

Choir estudiantes entre 2-8 participan cada jueves de 1-2 pm.

Club de tejer continuará reuniéndose los viernes en el salón de 3rd/4th.

Club de filantropía El club este año estará organizando donativos de uso cotidiano para el dia
de accion de gracias. Participe donando barras de jabón, peines, cepillos y pasta de dientes, y
shampoo. Depositelos en el salón de clase de su hijo/a. La clase con los más donativos ganara
una fiesta de pizza.

Decatalon académico nuestros miembros están ansiosamente esperando la llegada de sus
guías de estudio para la competencia y para trabajar en sus destrezas de lógica! Esperamos
grandes cosas de estas mentes brillantes

Actualización de comunicaciones
Padres con niños entre 2 - 8 tendrán acceso a Engrade el sistema en línea que usan los
maestros para anotar las calificaciones. Todos deben haber recibido su usuario y
contraseña. Si tiene problemas ingresando o necesita ayuda bajando la aplicación Remind
favor de acercarse a la oficina de enfrente.

SAINT SEBASTIAN SCHOOL

Saint Sebastian School provides academic excellence in a private, Catholic, multilingual setting in order to prepare students to serve as faith-filled disciples in our global community.  We are West Los Angeles' Dual Language Immersion Catholic School with the goal for our students to master academic subjects while becoming fluent in both Spanish and English.  Since 1950, Saint Sebastian School has educated students in Preschool, Transitional Kindergarten,  Kindergarten, Elementary and Middle School.
