Dear St. Sebastian Families,

I hope that everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving.  A number of our families were experiencing Thanksgiving for the first time, we continue to be blessed by the rich cultural diversity present at St. Sebastian School.

Students who returned church raffle tickets may have free dress on Monday, Nov. 30th.  Thank you for your support with this fundraiser; if you have not sold your tickets, please bring any unused books to the front office.

Monday the Scholastic Book Fair will be open for teacher previewing.  A schedule will be going home for the week when we return on Monday.

SPC:
Message from Jamie Allee
I want to let you know about an upcoming fundraiser and opportunity for us to support the Church while completing some service hours.  As you know, we have been asked to contribute an additional 10 services hours as part of our children's preparation for First Communion.  This is a great opportunity for us.

On Sunday, December 6th, our school is hosting a Pancake Breakfast Fundraiser in the cafeteria.  All proceeds will be donated to the Church to help with much needed electrical repairs.  We will be serving pancakes before and after each Mass.  Since our children are preparing for First Communion with the Church, I have asked that we have the first opportunity to sign up to volunteer.  We need your help.  You will be receiving an email shortly with a link to Volunteer Spot.  Please take a moment to sign up for 1 or more shifts.  See you there!

Traffic Duty
Thank you to the families that have been helping out at morning drop off.  We still need volunteers from 5th and 6th grade for the month of December.  This is a quick 30-minute volunteer opportunity from 7:30- 7:50am and a great way to get to know the children and families.

Dear St. Sebastian Families,

Last week we sent out church raffle tickets with the oldest and only child of each family and I want to thank all the families who have already sold their tickets.  Please make this a top priority for your family to sell one book (each book contains only 5 tickets).  I cannot stress how supportive our pastor and church are to our school, it is our turn to show how much we appreciate this support by giving back 100%.  If you are making payment by check, please make it out to St. Sebastian Church.  All raffle tickets must be sold by Nov. 24th!

Chocolate sales have begun!  Thursday, chocolate went home with the oldest and only student of every family.  Last year, with the help of Ms. Zuniga, we sold every chocolate bar.  The chocolate sale and the Festival are the two largest fundraisers at the school, your support is truly appreciated.

This Sunday we will be selling chocolate outside the church.  There is a Volunteerspot currently set up, please check your email and sign up to help sell chocolate for the school.  Chocolate sold for the 22nd, will be supplied by the school.  Students who show up in uniform will earn a free dress day at school (free dress coupon collected in the front office).

Thank you to everyone who has returned the church raffle tickets and payment.  Saint Sebastian School would not exist without the support of Father German and the church.
Our goal is to have 100% participation from our families, let’s show that we can make a difference!

SPC:
Volunteers are still needed for morning drop off. This month 5th and 6th grade families are scheduled to volunteer.  Pick one day a week and show up for those days from 7:30- 7:50, it’s a quick 30 minute commitment and a lot of fun!

Important Dates to Remember
  • Nov. 22 - After Mass Chocolate sale
Nov. 24 - Report cards go home
  • Nov. 24 - Mrs. Piggle Wiggle party in Mrs. Mariano’s Room
  • Nov. 25-29 NO SCHOOL Thanksgiving Break
  • Dec. 6 - Church pancake breakfast (all masses)

Dear St. Sebastian Families,

This week at our SPC meeting Fr. German shared with us an important fundraiser to support the electrical infrastructure at the church.  The current system is steadily declining and needs immediate attention to restore it to an optimal level.  Please join with all our families to support this very important project.  All ticket stubs and money may be turned into the front office of the school.  Although this will not be put toward school fundraising, students that return a book will get to participate in a free dress day.  Student council will determine the best date and theme of dress.  Tickets with a letter from Fr. German came home with each student Friday.  Please make sure that you help your student locate the information and tickets.

Our goal is to have 100% participation from our families, let’s show that we can make a difference!

Our cafeteria is officially re-opened.  Friday after mass, Fr. German performed a special blessing in thanksgiving of all the efforts that were put toward the remodel.  If you haven’t had a chance to look at the face lift, make sure that you come by and take a peek!

Our annual Chocolate Sale will begin on Thursday, Nov. 19th.  Chocolates will be going home on Thursday the 19th so make sure that #1 your child has two boxes of chocolate at pickup, #2 they are not left in the car as they can melt, and #3 try not to eat them all, it’s hard to eat just one bite.
There will be more information going home next week about the details of the chocolate sale.

This past Monday we had our first Newspaper Club meeting.  Students are deciding on a name for the paper and beginning to think of great news happenings to write about.  Please talk to your student about joining.  We have a very qualified team leading the club, and this is a wonderful opportunity for fun writing practice.  The next meeting is Monday, Nov. 16th at 4pm in room #6.

SPC:
The SPC leadership team met on Tues. the 10th for a spirited meeting with a packed agenda.  We discussed the following: how to help the church with the electrical repair,  chocolate sale, pancake breakfast on Dec. 6th, scholastic book fair, script and gift cards and a spring accreditation- which I will be sharing with everyone in more detail next week.  Thank you everyone who was able to attend, we were able to accomplish a lot!

Dear St. Sebastian Families,

Final touches are being made to the cafeteria so that we can open on Friday, Nov. 13th.  There will be a special blessing after mass at 8am.  Please join us in celebration of our amazing new cafeteria!

IMPORTANT DROP OFF PROCEDURE
With safety always being the #1 priority at the school, we will be implementing a new drop off procedure.  Starting Monday, Nov. 9th, morning drop off will be on Wyoming Ave..  Please note the following procedure for drop off:
  • Proceed west on Wyoming Ave.
  • Pull up to the gate marked with a red circle nearest the school building traveling toward Federal Ave.
  • Do not get out of the car, your students will need to exit on the passenger side of the the car.
  • Please have your student ready to exit the car upon pulling up to the designated drop off area.
  • Please follow the directions of the traffic attendant.
  • Do not allow your child to exit the car, allow the attendant to open and close their door.

Please do not park your car near the gate used for drop off in the mornings.  Cones will be put out at 7:10 am to make sure that the area is cleared.   This will keep cars off the lot which will keep our children safe and give them time outside to play before school. Thank you for your help with this new procedure.

Monday, November 9th we will have our first Spartan Newspaper Club meeting.  if you are in grades 5-8, please meet in room #7 at 4pm.

Mrs. Maalouf is taking weekly orders for gift cards.  If you would like to order a gift card, please inquire in the front office.  Thank you Mrs. Maalouf!

SPC: There will be a SPC meeting on Tuesday for chair members and head room parents at 5:30pm.  If you have items for the agenda, please send them to Ms. McDugald by Monday, Nov. 9th.

Pope Francis has had some great twitter comments the past couple weeks.  With all the selfies, reality shows and constant fixation on ourselves, he has certainly said it in simple terms.  He truly warms my heart!

Important Dates to Remember
  • Nov. 10           SPC Chair Meeting
  • Nov. 11           Veterans Day No School
  • Nov. 13           After school food sale (fish tacos)
