Dear St. Sebastian Families,
St. Sebastian has been a very busy place the past two weeks. Catholic Schools Week was a great success, thank you to all families who participated in the weeks events. A special thank you to career day visitors, speakers at Sunday mass, International Potluck helpers and the SPC for preparing breakfast and lunch for Teacher Appreciation Day. This week parents met with teachers to discuss their student’s progress, STAR assessment reports were also discussed. Please make sure to share the “Glows and Grows” of this conversation with your child and continue discussions for growth with your student’s teachers. On Wednesday, Feb. 24th there will be two opportunities to meet with Mrs. Harty, one in the morning at 8am for coffee and another in the evening at 5pm. Both meetings are for parents only and have been planned during times when childcare is available. These events are for grades 1-8, we look forward to seeing you then. February is Black History Month. Our student council is presenting each week on the significant contributions and sacrifices made by African Americans. Student council members will be focusing specifically on those who have made contributions relating to human rights issues, religion, education, science and literature. Admissions Notes: If you are considering enrolling a new sibling in the school for next year, please contact the admissions office by February 19. We are receiving high interest for the upcoming year, and would like to reserve space for our current families. If you have friends or relatives interested in Saint Sebastian School, you can receive half off your registration fee upon their enrollment. Re-enrollment information for current students will come out next week via letter and email Important Dates to Remember

Please sign up for the International Potluck on Thursday with your student’s teachers. Parent teacher conferences will be available through the week of February 9th, please make sure that you sign up for a time with your student’s teacher. Progress reports and STAR assessments results will be available the week of the 9th as well. Please make sure that you share concerns, successes with your student and work in a collaborative spirit to support ongoing growth. FYI on aftercare: Mr. Yin is now attending CSUN so will be working Tuesday, Wednesday and Fridays. We are presently interviewing aftercare candidates, more information to follow. Friday we had a visit from author Elaine Harrison. Elaine comes to us from Chicago, transitioned from her previous job in marketing to a children’s book author. Elaine travels across the country presenting and sharing her message of acceptance and kindness. Many of our students purchased her book on Friday, if you would still like to get one of her books, here is her website: www.luckyduckpublishing.com. SPC: There will be a meeting on Feb. 9th for SPC leadership. We will be meeting in room #7 at 5:30. Tweet from Pope Francis: “When we entrust ourselves to the Lord, we can overcome all obstacles that we encounter on the way.” God Bless, Ms. McDugald |
