Dear St. Sebastian Families,
Happy New Year! Teachers and faculty began the year with an inservice on “The Year of Mercy.” Teachers will be sharing and working with their students on various activities to help them to participate in acts of giving, forgiveness and grace. Please join with us and your children in sharing in this beautiful and difficult time to help to be merciful to ourselves and each other. Wednesday January 20th, we will be celebrating mass together for the “Feast of St. Sebastian.” This evening will begin in celebration of mass. Our choir will be singing with our church/school community sharing in all parts of the mass. After mass, we will all join together in the cafeteria for a community potluck. A Volunteer Spot email went out for potluck sign ups. If you haven’t had a chance to meet Mrs. Harty, this would be a great opportunity as well. Since this is a very special celebration for our school and church, I am asking that this be a homework free night for students. Their only homework is to attend with their families!

This Saturday, we will be hosting a “Dual Language Informational Fair” and “Open House.” Many families have volunteered to help out. If you would like to volunteer your time for the event, please contact Mr. Higdon in the front office. The Fair and Open House will run from 10am 12:30pm. All families with students in grades TK and K are highly encouraged to attend the panel portion of the fair as part of their ongoing DL parent education. Please go onto our website to sign up if you are planning on attending. http://www.saintsebastinschool.com/duallanguagefair.html

This week our “Philanthropy Club” met for the first time. If you are interested in being a part of this group, meetings are on Thursdays from 4 5pm. Friday Diane Cyre will be starting a knitting club. If your child, ages 8 13, is interested in learning the art of knitting, class will be offered from 2 3pm starting this week. There will be a sign up list posted on the SPC board in the hallway of the school.

We are enjoying having the Senior Loyola boys on campus for their Senior Service Projects. They are helping out in classrooms with various activities. There is also a number of Sophomore boys from Loyola helping out after school.

The Spartan Parent Club met last week. Alex Torres is the chair of our Carnival this year and will be reaching out to families to help plan this year’s Carnival. Our SPC cochairs have sent a Volunteer Spot sign up for the “St. Sebastian Potluck”, chocolate is still available for sale, money continues to come in for this fundraiser, planning for the “Father Daughter Dance” has begun and Ms. Zuniga will be reminding everyone to sign up for script opportunities. Thank you SPC leaders for all your support, you are truly a blessing to the school.
