Mrs. Patricia Harty (ADMISSIONS AND DEVELOPMENT)

Picture
Patricia Salazar Harty, a first generation American, grew up in Fort Worth, TX speaking only Spanish at home and English at school. Experiencing this dichotomy inspired her to delve into the education field to study English language learners and the most effective way to educate them. A product of Catholic education kindergarten through graduate school, she has dedicated twelve years of her career to helping students like herself see that their home language is an asset. Throughout those years she has taught virtually all grades K-5th as well as graduate level courses. She has taught in Washington, DC, Texas, and Santiago, Chile. Her teaching experiences include work in public and Catholic schools, in settings like one and two-way dual language immersion and English as a foreign language programs. For the past year she has worked as the Principal of St. Sebastian School, the second dual language Catholic School in the Archdiocese of Los Angeles. Previously she worked as the Dual Language Implementation Specialist for the Archdiocese and prior to that she was a reading specialist in the Onward Readers program serving East Los Angeles Catholic schools. Throughout this time she has taught graduate level courses at the University of Notre Dame as well as undergraduate courses at Loyola Marymount University. She was recently appointed to a three-year term on the Advisory Board for the Alliance for Catholic Education at the University of Notre Dame. She has also worked, as a consultant for Notre Dame, where she taught online courses for the Universidad Sagrado Corazón in Puerto Rico for their bilingual certification program. Currently Patricia and her husband Connor are delighted to be learning how to be the best parents they can to their son Amon Guillermo.
